The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) is collaborating with Europol and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to raise awareness about the dangers of fake medicines and the importance of protecting public health and intellectual property rights.
As part of the #EUvsFakeMedicines campaign, the three agencies are working together to highlight the devastating consequences of fake medicines, which pose significant health risks to consumers and inflict substantial costs on the EU's health and social care systems.
The campaign focuses on two key angles: the health risks associated with fake medicines and the organised crime groups behind these illicit activities. To learn more about the health risks, visit the EMA's website, which provides detailed information on the dangers of falsified medicines.
The prevalence of fake medicines has given rise to organised crime, which in turn exploits vulnerable individuals and further endangers lives. Europol's Operation SHIELD plays a crucial role in disrupting these criminal networks and safeguarding the EU's citizens.
As part of the campaign, two videos have been produced to raise awareness about the issue:
This video, designed for social media channels, aim to inform and educate the public about the risks associated with fake medicines and the importance of buying online safely.
The #EUvsFakeMedicines campaign will go live on Thursday, 30 January at 10:00 AM (CEST), with all three agencies posting on social media using the same hashtag. We invite you to join the conversation and help us spread the word about the dangers of fake medicines.
For more information on the implications of fake medicines on intellectual property and businesses, visit the EUIPO website.
Together, we can make a difference and protect the health and well-being of EU citizens.
