World Intellectual Property Day – 26th of April

The game is organised to mark the World Intellectual Property Day on the 26th of April. This year it’s dedicated to innovations and creativity. According to a study on the perceptions of citizens on intellectual property published by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), European citizens are becoming more and more aware of the risks and consequences of purchasing fakes, as well as of the access to content by illegal sources. 80% of the Europeans agree that counterfeit goods contribute to criminal organisations, and damage business and workplaces. Every two out of three think that fakes pose a threat to the health and safety of people, and the environment. On a national level, the share of consumers who have consciously purchased a counterfeit varies from 24% in Bulgaria to 8% in Finland. Aside from Bulgaria, the numbers beyond the average for the EU of people who knowingly purchase fakes are in Spain (20%), Ireland (19%), Luxembourg (19%), and Romania (18%).
